Curriculum Overview

Overview

Learning in our curriculum subjects is carefully planned, sequenced and linked.

Our curriculum maps show what is being taught in our school and when.  They highlight our whole school sequence of learning, and the link staff will be making between the curriculum and our learner dispositions.

Topic Lists highlight how topics are organised, the linked curriculum coverage and what children need to be able to do by the end of the topic.

Progression frameworks outline what the curriculum objectives are for each year group in each curriculum area, how the key ideas and skills develop in each year, how they build on earlier learning and what these would look like for children working at different levels within the framework, providing essential next steps in their learning.

Unit Overviews provide information about what will be covered in a unit, how this information links to the National Curriculum, how it links with related learning from other topics and how it builds on previous learning in that topic or subject, and the knowledge, skills, vocabulary and concepts that pupils will acquire.

Knowledge organisers are a simple tool that provides clarity for both the teachers and children.  They summarise the most vital, useful and powerful knowledge on a single A4 sheet.  They provide children with an overview of the essential concepts that children will have learnt by the end of the topic.  They include the knowledge, vocabulary that children should understand and use, cross-curricular links and assessment opportunities.  They also act as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.
